Jaguars shifting Travis Hunter to full-time cornerback
The Jacksonville Jaguars plan to use Travis Hunter primarily as a full-time cornerback next season, according to a report. The team selected the former Heisman Trophy winner second overall in the 2025 NFL Draft after his standout two-way play at Colorado. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Friday the Jaguars expect Hunter to play cornerback full time and wide receiver part time to maximize his value.
Hunter suffered a season-ending LCL tear in practice before Week 9 of his rookie year. He recovers well, runs routes and expects full participation in training camp despite limited involvement in organized team activities. Cornerback Greg Newsome II left for the New York Giants in free agency, opening a starting spot.
In seven games, Hunter caught 28 passes for 298 yards and one touchdown while logging 15 tackles and three pass breakups on defense. He played 67 percent of offensive snaps and 36 percent of defensive snaps before the injury. His final game produced eight receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown in a 35-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in London.
The Jaguars finished 13-4 last season, won the AFC South and lost to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC wild-card round. Hunter's adjusted role aims to bolster their secondary as they pursue deeper playoff success.
