Tiger Woods posts Memorial Day tribute to veterans and father

Tiger Woods issued his first public statement in nearly two months on Memorial Day, honoring members of the U.S. armed forces who died in service and specifically recognizing his late father, Earl Woods.

Woods posted the message on X early Monday afternoon. He noted that Earl Woods served two tours in Vietnam as a U.S. Army Special Forces operator and completed 20 years of military service before his death in May 2006. The statement read in part: “To all those like my father, we all say thank you for your sacrifices. Without them we wouldn’t have the greatest country on Earth.”

Woods had last appeared publicly on March 31, when he announced he would step away from golf to enter treatment after his March 27 arrest in Florida on charges of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a urine test. He received permission on April 1 to travel abroad for inpatient care and returned to Florida briefly earlier this month before his private aircraft departed again for Switzerland.

Woods has not competed since the 2024 Open Championship. No schedule for his return to tournament play has been announced.
