Chiefs Release First Renderings of $3 Billion Kansas Dome, Set for 2031

The Kansas City Chiefs have publicly released initial design renderings and architectural details for their planned new stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas, a roughly $3 billion enclosed venue scheduled to open in 2031. The facility will seat 70,000 fans and feature a roof fitted with translucent ETFE panels, according to the club's announcement Wednesday. The stadium does not yet have a naming-rights partner.

The exterior design draws deliberately from Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs' current home, with seating arrangement and façade elements intended to echo the existing venue's appearance. The new site will include more than 20,000 parking spaces, a Chiefs Hall of Fame double the size of the current one, a team store approximately four times larger than the existing facility, and a plaza statue honoring Lamar Hunt, who founded the franchise in 1960. The Chiefs have played at Arrowhead Stadium since 1972, making it one of the longest-tenured stadium relationships in the NFL. Before Arrowhead, the franchise spent nine seasons at Kansas City Municipal Stadium following its relocation from Dallas, where it competed as the Texans from 1960 through 1962. Arrowhead hosted several matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Once the new venue opens, Arrowhead Stadium's future use has not been publicly determined.

Chiefs President Mark Donovan said the club selected MANICA through a competitive process lasting several months and described the target as delivering "the premier sports and entertainment venue not only in the Midwest, but in the world," according to the club's statement. With a projected five-year construction timeline, the franchise expects to continue playing at Arrowhead Stadium through the 2030 NFL season before transitioning to the new facility.
